👉 ITINERARY

DAY ONE

  1. Departure from Iquitos: Reception at the Hotel or Airport by a LUPUNA JUNGLE TOURS team member (Naturalist Guide). Private transfer by car (approx. 1 hour 30 minutes) to Nauta City, located on the Marañón River. From Nauta’s port, we board our typical wooden roofed boat and navigate for approximately 2 hours along the Marañón, Amazon, Ucayali and Yarapa Rivers (our lodge is located on the Yarapa River). During this first navigation, you may observe river birds, dolphins, and local river activities.

  2. Lunch Time: Table Service or Buffet Self-Service at the lodge. checkpoint. Traditional lunch (e.g., Patarashca or fresh river fish).

  3. Cultural Visit to a Local River Village: Visit a small riverside village to learn about the lifestyle, beliefs, dialects, education, and daily activities of Amazonian people. River communities depend on the river for transportation, fishing, and daily life. Some families collect rainwater or river water for use, and many create beautiful handicrafts for income. This cultural interaction allows you to experience authentic Amazon life. If you bring school supplies, this is a great opportunity to share with local children.

  4. Swimming & Pink and Grey Dolphin Observation: Enjoy swimming in the river while observing pink and grey river dolphins in their natural habitat.

  5. Sunset (Afterglow) on the River: Experience one of the most breathtaking sunsets on the Amazon River (between 5:45 pm and 6:15 pm). Relax while watching the sun reflect over the water and sky. You may also spot dolphins, birds such as egrets, parrots, black skimmers, terns, or even caimans. This excursion can be combined with navigation on the main river for a longer experience.

DAY TWO

  1. Sunrise on the River & Birdwatching: Wake up at 5:30 am and depart at 5:45 am from our Base Camp by boat toward the main river. In the middle of the river, we turn off the engine and remain in silence for about 5 minutes to enjoy the peaceful sounds of the river and birds. The sunrise lasts approximately 15 minutes, and you can watch the sun emerging through the clouds due to the high jungle humidity (around 90%).
After sunrise, we navigate upstream searching for wildlife such as dolphins, iguanas, hawks, terns, herons, and black skimmers. Then we return to the Base Camp. Duration: approximately 1 hour.

  2. Breakfast Time: Table Service or Buffet Self-Service.

  6. Night time Caiman Spotting: Boat excursion to nearby black lakes (approximately 40 minutes from the lodge) in search of caimans. Along the way, you may also observe snakes, opossums, bats, monkeys, and other nocturnal wildlife. If conditions allow, the guide may safely catch a caiman briefly for photos before releasing it back into its habitat.

If you enjoy fishing, this is a great opportunity to spend half a day surrounded by jungle sounds while fishing. We provide a local fishing rod (wooden fishing stick) and bait, but you may bring your own fishing equipment if you prefer.
At the end of the excursion, we humorously “make a donation to Mother Nature” for allowing us to fish (just a little jungle sense of humor 😉). Duration: flexible, depending on how much time you wish to spend fishing.

  3. Amazon Jungle Hike: After breakfast, we begin an adventurous jungle hike to explore the Amazon rainforest. During the hike, you will learn about medicinal plants used by Amazonian tribes and see impressive trees such as Kapok (Lupuna), Ficus, Amazon Mahogany, and the historic Rubber Tree.
