👉 ITINERARY

DAY ONE

  1. Reception at Hotel or Airport: Reception at your hotel or Iquitos Airport by a LUPUNA JUNGLE TOURS team member (Naturalist Guide), who will be waiting to greet you.We then take a private car (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes) to Nauta City, whose port is located on the Marañón River. From Nauta’s port, we board our typical wooden roofed boat and sail for approximately 2 hours toward the lodge, navigating along the Marañón, Amazon, Ucayali, and Yarapa Rivers (our lodge is situated on the Yarapa River).During this first navigation, you might observe river birds, dolphins, and local river community activities.

  2. Lunch Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service

  3. Medicinal Jungle Walk: Have you ever tried walking in the jungle? Walking through nature is one of the best therapies — breathing pure air and learning about medicinal plants is a natural way to relieve stress. Over 50,000 species of plants grow as shrubs, vines, bushes, and giant trees forming this unique ecosystem. Some are medicinal, some toxic, and some even psychedelic. You may have heard about: AYAHUASCA (Banisteriopsis caapi), meaning “Soul Vine”, CHACRUNA (Psychotria viridis), known for containing strong natural DMT, UÑA DE GATO (Cat’s Claw)With every step, you will learn to recognize the healing properties of plants used by our ancestors for centuries and still used today. You will also encounter exotic flowers, fungi, birds, and small wildlife. Welcome to the Jungle — the lung of the world and our natural pharmacy reserve. This excursion may last as long as you wish; we recommend coordinating the duration with your guide.

  4. Dinner Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service.

  5. Night time Caiman Spotting: We depart by boat to the blackwater lakes located approximately 40 minutes from the lodge. Along the way, you may spot snakes, opossums, bats, monkeys, and other nocturnal wildlife. Searching for caimans is not always easy, but for us nothing is impossible. If you wish to take a closer picture, our guide may carefully catch one for observation and then safely release it back into its natural habitat.

DAY TWO

  1. Sunrise on the River & Birdwatching: Wake up at 5:30 am and depart at 5:45 am from our Base Camp by boat toward the main river. Once in the middle of the river, we turn off the engine and remain in silence for about 5 minutes to enjoy this peaceful moment, listening to the whisper of the river and the songs of the birds. The sunrise lasts approximately 15 minutes, and you will witness the sun rising through the clouds due to the high humidity of the jungle (around 90%). Afterward, we navigate upstream searching for wildlife along the riverbanks. You may observe dolphins, iguanas, hawks, terns, herons, black skimmers, and other bird species. We then return to Base Camp. This excursion lasts approximately 1 hour.

  2. Breakfast Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service

  3. Piranha Fishing: We head upriver enjoying the Amazon, home to over 2,000 species of fish such as peacock bass, barracuda, sardines, catfish, and many others. We will visit jungle lakes deep in the area to practice traditional piranha fishing. You may catch several piranhas and bring them back to the lodge to taste this famous fish and experience one of the most fascinating species of the Amazon. If you are a fisherman, this is a great opportunity to spend half a day fishing while enjoying the jungle sounds. We provide a local fishing rod (traditional fishing stick) and bait. If you have your own fishing equipment, feel free to bring it. At the end of the excursion, we symbolically make a small “donation to Mother Nature” (just a little Amazon sense of humor 😉). This excursion may last as long as you wish to stay outdoors.

  4. Lunch Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service.

  5. Junction Observation – Where the Amazon River Is Born: We depart downstream from our Base Camp in our typical wooden boat along the Ucayali River for approximately 30 minutes to reach the point where the Amazon River begins. Upon arrival, we stop the boat to touch the water, take pictures, and listen to nature while the Naturalist Guide explains the geographical importance of this location. We then continue navigating along the river in search of wildlife such as monkeys, dolphins, birds, sloths, iguanas, and more. This excursion lasts approximately 4 hours round trip. On our way back along the Ucayali River, we enjoy the open sky and prepare for the next activity.

  6. Dinner Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service.

  7. Night time Jungle Walk: After dinner, we enter the jungle wearing rubber boots — the safest way to explore the rainforest at night. During the walk, we search for nocturnal wildlife such as night monkeys, opossums, snakes, frogs, toads, bullet ants, spiders, tarantulas, scorpions, insects, small reptiles, and more. A true Amazon night time adventure.

DAY THREE

  1. Breakfast Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service.

  2. Excursion: Amazon Safari Exploration – Giant Amazon Lily Pads – Jungle Lunch: Do you want to enjoy a delicious lunch in the middle of the jungle along the river? It may sound crazy — but in the Amazon, everything is possible. This is a full boat expedition designed to explore remote areas of the rainforest. Please prepare your personal belongings (water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, and camera). We depart upriver at approximately 9:30 am, carrying basic cooking supplies to prepare lunch in the jungle. The farther we travel, the greater the chance of spotting wildlife deep within the rainforest. Throughout the expedition, we stop whenever wildlife is spotted, such as different species of monkeys, toucans, macaws, hawks, iguanas, tree rats, bats, sloths, anteaters, and many other birds. During the tour, we will also search for the Giant Amazon Lily Pads (Victoria Regia) — the largest aquatic plant in the world. Its impressive floating leaves can reach up to 3 meters (10 feet) in diameter, and its flowers bloom in beautiful white, pink, and purple tones. These plants are found in mid-sized streams, lakes, ponds, and wetlands (lentic water ecosystems). We navigate through rivers and smaller channels to locate this extraordinary plant while continuing wildlife observation. This excursion can be combined with additional activities such as: A jungle walk Piranha fishing (you may even catch your own fish for lunch) For vegetarian guests, fresh vegetables will be available for salads.
