We then travel by private car (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes) to Nauta City, whose port is located on the Marañón River. From  e lodge along the Marañón, Amazon, Ucayali, and Yarapa Rivers (our lodge is located on the Yarapa River). We stop at jungle lakes where you will try traditional piranha fishing. You may catch several piranhas and bring them back to the lodge to taste this famous Amazon fish. If you are a fisherman, this is a great opportunity to spend half a day fishing while enjoying the jungle sounds. We provide a local fishing rod (traditional fishing stick) and bait. If you have your own fishing equipment, feel free to bring it. At the end of the excursion, we symbolically make a small “donation to Mother Nature” (just a little Amazon sense of humor 😉). This excursion may last as long as you wish to enjoy the experience.

  4. Sunset (Afterglow) on the River: Enjoy one of the most breathtaking sunsets on the Amazon River between 5:45 pm and 6:15 pm. This is a relaxing way to end the day while admiring the colors reflected on the water and feeling the fresh jungle breeze. During this excursion, you might observe pink and gray dolphins, egrets, small parrots, black skimmers, terns, and even a caiman on the way back to the lodge. This activity can be combined with a longer navigation connected to the main Amazon River.

  6. Night time Jungle Walk:  After dinner, we prepare for a guided jungle walk using rubber boots to safely explore the rainforest. We search for nocturnal wildlife such as night monkeys, opossums, snakes, frogs, toads, bullet ants, tarantulas, scorpions, insects, and small reptiles. A true Amazon nighttime adventure.

DAY TWO

  1. Sunrise on the River & Birdwatching: Wake up at 5:30 am and depart at 5:45 am from our Base Camp by boat toward the main river. Once in the middle of the river, we turn off the engine and remain in silence for a few minutes to enjoy the peaceful sounds of the river and the birds at dawn. The sunrise lasts approximately 15 minutes, and you will witness the sun rising through the clouds due to the high humidity of the Amazon rainforest (around 90%). Afterward, we navigate upstream searching for wildlife along the riverbanks. You may observe pink and gray dolphins, iguanas, hawks, terns, herons, black skimmers, and other bird species. We then return to Base Camp. This excursion lasts approximately 1 hour.

  2. Breakfast Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service.

  3. Amazon Jungle Hike: After breakfast, it is time to explore the Amazon rainforest. This activity is highly recommended for those who enjoy adventure and learning about nature. During the hike, you will learn about medicinal plants traditionally used by Amazonian tribes and observe impressive trees such as the Kapok (Ceiba), Ficus, Amazon Mahogany, and the historic Rubber Tree. Along the trail, we search for wildlife including monkeys, birds, rodents, spiders, ants, insects, and possibly snakes. We provide rubber boots to ensure comfort and safety while walking through the jungle. This excursion may last approximately 4 to 5 hours round trip.

  4. Lunch Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service.

  5. Junction Observation – Birthplace of the Amazon River: We head downstream from Base Camp by traditional wooden boat along the Ucayali River for approximately 30 minutes until reaching the point where the Amazon River is formed. Upon arrival, we stop the boat to touch the water, take pictures, and listen to the sounds of nature while your Naturalist Guide explains the geographical importance of this junction. We continue navigating along the river in search of wildlife such as monkeys, dolphins, birds, sloths, and iguanas. This excursion lasts approximately 4 hours round trip. On the way back along the Ucayali River, we enjoy the open sky and combine the excursion with the next nighttime activity.

  6. Dinner Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service.

  7. Night time Caiman Spotting: After dinner, we depart by boat to nearby blackwater lakes (approximately 40 minutes from the lodge) in search of caimans. Along the way, you may also spot snakes, opossums, bats, and monkeys. Caiman spotting is not always easy, but our experienced guides know how to locate them. If conditions allow, the guide may carefully capture one briefly for observation and photos before safely releasing it back into its natural habitat. A fascinating nocturnal Amazon experience.

DAY THREE

  1. Breakfast in the Boat (Amazon Safari): Wake up at 6:00 am and prepare your personal belongings (water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, hat, and camera). At 7:00 am, we depart upriver carrying your personal Box Breakfast. The goal is to travel deeper into the jungle, where wildlife sightings are more frequent. Whenever you feel hungry, we stop the boat and serve your breakfast box while you enjoy your meal surrounded by jungle sounds. Throughout the expedition, we stop whenever wildlife is spotted, including different species of monkeys, toucans, macaws, hawks, iguanas, tree rats, bats, sloths, anteaters, and many bird species. After spending the morning exploring remote areas of the rainforest, we return to Base Camp around 12:00 pm. This excursion lasts approximately 5 hours.

  2. Lunch Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service.

  3. Giant Amazon Lily Pads Watching (Victoria Regia): Enjoy observing the world’s largest aquatic plant, known as the Amazon Lily Pad or Victoria Regia. These impressive floating leaves can reach up to 3 meters (10 feet) in diameter and produce beautiful flowers that change from white to pink and purple. They are found in mid-sized streams, lakes, ponds, and wetlands (lentic water ecosystems). To search for these giant plants, we navigate by traditional boat along rivers and small waterways while continuing to spot wildlife along the way. This excursion can be combined with another exploration of nearby small rivers if you wish to spend more time in the jungle.

  4. Watching / Swimming with Pink and Gray River Dolphins: Have you ever heard about freshwater pink dolphins and the chance to swim near them? This is not a fairy tale — this is the Amazon. We navigate along the river searching for pink and gray dolphins. Sometimes both species can be seen in the same area, although pink dolphins are often solitary animals. We recommend bringing a good camera or phone for video recording, as dolphins surface quickly and capturing photos can be challenging. This is also a great opportunity to cool down by swimming in the waters of the mighty Amazon River. This excursion lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours.

  5. Dinner Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service.

  6. Night Outdoor – Stargazing on the River: After a full day exploring rivers, lakes, and wildlife, we head out by boat at night to enjoy the clear Amazon sky. Far from city lights, you can observe countless stars, constellations, and sometimes even shooting stars. You may bring a bottle of wine, relax on your seat, and enjoy the peaceful jungle atmosphere under the southern hemisphere sky. This excursion lasts approximately 1 hour.

DAY FOUR

  1. Breakfast Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service.

  2. Cultural Visit to a Local River Village: River communities usually live in small villages along the river, as it is their main source of transportation, food, and daily activities. The river provides fish for consumption and sale, and in some villages, families collect water from rain or directly from the river due to limited access to treated water. Local families make the best use of natural resources, and many create beautiful handmade crafts to generate income. During this visit, you will learn about their culture, beliefs, lifestyle, dialects, education system, and daily routines. It is a meaningful opportunity to interact with Amazonian people and experience authentic river life. Children are always happy to meet visitors from around the world. If you wish to bring school supplies, this is a wonderful moment to share and bring smiles to their faces.

  3. Lunch Time: Table Service / Buffet Self-Service.

  4. Return to Iquitos City: After lunch, we begin our return journey by boat to Nauta, enjoying the final views of the Amazon rainforest. Upon arrival at Nauta’s port, private transportation will be waiting to transfer you back to your hotel or the airport in Iquitos. End of our services.
