DAY ONE
-
Departure from Iquitos: Private overland transfer to the town of Nauta.
-
Into the Wild: Board a typical riverboat. You will witness the Meeting of the Waters: where the Marañón and Ucayali rivers join to give birth to the Amazon River.
-
Arrival at the Reserve: Entry procedures at the Santo Domingo checkpoint. Traditional lunch (e.g., Patarashca or fresh river fish).
-
Pink Dolphin Scouting: Navigation through the black waters of the Yanayacu-Pucate area. This is prime habitat for both Pink and Gray River Dolphins.
-
Alligator Spotting: Night excursion by canoe. Using high-powered spotlights, your guide will locate the glowing eyes of White and Black Caimans.
DAY TWO
-
Dawn Chorus: Early morning birdwatching session. Keep an eye out for Macaws, Toucans, and the prehistoric-looking Hoatzin (Shansho).
-
Primary Forest Trek: A guided hike through "Terra Firme" (non-flooded) forest. Learn about medicinal plants, find giant Kapok trees (Lupuna), and spot Howler monkeys.
-
Piranha Fishing: Try your hand at traditional fishing using wooden poles. You’ll be looking for Red-bellied Piranhas.
-
The Mirror Sunset: Relax as the boat stops in the middle of a lagoon. The water becomes so still it acts as a perfect mirror, reflecting the vibrant Amazonian sunset.
-
Nocturnal Life: A short night walk to discover the "micro-world" of the jungle: tarantulas, colorful frogs, and giant insects.
DAY THREE
-
Conservation Visit: Visit the 20 de Enero community to see their sustainability projects, such as the Taricaya Turtle repopulation program.
-
Victoria Regia Exploration: Navigation to find the world's largest water lilies (Victoria Amazonica), which can grow up to 3 meters in diameter.
-
Farewell Lunch: A final Amazonian feast before starting the journey back.
-
Return to Iquitos: Boat ride back to Nauta, followed by a private van transfer to your hotel or Iquitos Airport.
