👉 ITINERARY
DAY ONE
-
Departure from Iquitos: Morning pickup from your accommodation in Iquitos or from our office by private vehicle or minivan (depending on group size). We travel south for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes to the riverside town of Nauta, while your guide shares information about Iquitos, its surroundings, and main attractions.

Into the Wild: Departure by private riverboat from the port of Nauta. We begin a 3-hour navigation upriver, enjoying stunning Amazonian landscapes and spotting wildlife such as pink and gray river dolphins, herons, turtles, and abundant tropical flora.

Arrival at the Reserve: Continue navigating for 30 minutes to reach the community of Buenos Aires. Along the riverbanks, observe diverse flora and fauna, especially birds such as great-crowned herons, snowy egrets, and kingfishers. A guided hike through the primary rainforest allows you to observe wildlife and fully connect with nature.

Pink Dolphin Scouting: Navigation through the black waters of the Yanayacu Pucate area, prime habitat for both Pink and Gray River Dolphins.

Night Jungle Experience: After sunset, enjoy a night walk in search of nocturnal wildlife such as spiders, snakes, lizards, frogs, and rodents, while listening to the fascinating sounds of the Amazon at night.

Night Jungle Experience: Overnight stay in a traditional village house in the community of Buenos Aires. Accommodation is provided in single beds with mosquito nets. (Optional: overnight camping in jungle tents upon request.)
DAY TWO

Amazon Sunrise & Morning Wildlife:: Early morning wake-up to enjoy the sunrise in the rainforest. As the jungle comes alive, we begin our expedition while observing monkeys and sloths during their morning routines.

Canoe Navigation on the Pucate River: Board a canoe and explore the riverbanks, staying alert to movements and sounds of wildlife. We navigate for approximately 3 hours along the Pucate River, venturing deeper into the primary rainforest of Pacaya Samiria.

Traditional Piranha Fishing: Experience artisanal sport fishing just like local communities do. Your guide provides instructions, assistance, and all necessary equipment. With some luck, you may catch piranhas, as well as acarahuazú (Oscar fish) or fasaco (common trahira).

River Dolphins & Jungle Swim: Observe pink river dolphins (Inia geoffrensis) and gray dolphins (tucuxis) swimming freely in their natural habitat. This is also your opportunity to swim in the Pucate River within the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.

Virgin Rainforest Hike & Giant Trees: Guided hike through the virgin rainforest, observing diverse Amazonian flora and fauna. During the walk, we visit the impressive Lupuna tree, one of the largest trees in the Amazon rainforest.

Iricahua Lake Exploration: A deeper jungle trek of approximately 2 to 3 hours leads us to Lake Iricahua (Cocha Iricahua). Here, we may observe several species of monkeys such as woolly monkeys, howler monkeys, and marmosets (tocón monkeys). The lake is also home to the paiche (Arapaima gigas), the largest freshwater fish in the Amazon, as well as turtles and caimans.

Night Caiman Expedition & Jungle: Camping: After nightfall, embark on a night expedition to search for black and white caimans using spotlights. We then set up camp deep in the jungle, spending the night in tents, fully immersed in the sounds of the Amazon rainforest.
DAY THREE

Early Morning Primate Search:: Very early wake-up as we begin exploring the rainforest by canoe, searching for primates and other wildlife active during the early morning hours.

Botanical Walk & Medicinal Plants: Enjoy a guided botanical walk through the jungle, learning about medicinal plants of the Amazon rainforest. Discover traditional knowledge, including how to cut and drink water from a jungle vine known as “water rope.”

Preparation for Deep Jungle Expedition: Prepare your camping gear and get ready to venture deeper into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. We then continue navigating by boat for approximately 2 hours toward our next remote destination.

Deep Amazon Wildlife Expedition: Begin an expedition in search of primates and other animals in their natural habitat. The deeper we travel into the Amazon rainforest, the greater the chances of spotting wildlife.

Stream Exploration by Canoe: Explore narrow jungle streams by canoe, offering close encounters with the surrounding ecosystem. At the end of the stream, we disembark and explore the area on foot, observing wildlife such as the nine-banded armadillo (Carachupa), giant anteater, and rodents like the paca (Majaz) and Añuje, among other species.

Night Jungle Expedition & Camping: After sunset, take part in a nighttime expedition to search for and listen to nocturnal animals, including alligators, frogs, snakes, and other nighttime creatures. We then set up camp deep in the primary rainforest, spending the night in tents, surrounded by the sounds of the Amazon.
DAY FOUR

Boat Navigation to Remote Jungle Camp: An approximately 2-hour boat ride takes us deep into the pristine jungle to our next campsite, located in a remote area known as Quebrada del Fraile, far from any settlements.

Deep Jungle Wildlife Exploration: As we venture deeper into the rainforest, the chances of spotting wild animals, birds, and fish increase significantly, offering exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities.

Jungle Hike & Primate Observation: A guided jungle hike allows us to observe various species of monkeys, including howler monkeys and woolly monkeys, as well as other Amazonian wildlife.

Macaw Watching in Pacaya Samiria: Remain vigilant in this prime habitat for macaws, including red-and-green macaws and blue-and-yellow macaws. The Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is home to two of the eight macaw species found in Peru.

Giant River Otter Expedition: Special excursion in search of the giant river otter, one of the most impressive mammals of the Amazon rainforest.

Night Canoe & Wildlife Spotting: After sunset, enjoy a nighttime canoe excursion, searching for nocturnal wildlife along jungle waterways.

Night Walk & Jungle Camping: A guided night walk in search of wildlife such as the nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus) and rodents like the black agouti (Dasyprocta fuliginosa) and paca (majaz). We then set up camp in the virgin rainforest, spending the night sleeping in tents, surrounded by the sounds of the Amazon.

Early Morning Canoe & Birdwatching: An early morning canoe excursion awakens your senses as we begin a birdwatching session, the best time to observe wild birds in their natural habitat along the riverbanks and within the jungle.

Jungle Hike & Lake Exploration: Guided jungle hike in search of primates, exploring nearby Amazonian lakes (cochas) where wildlife is frequently observed in its natural environment.

Community Visit & Cultural Experience: Begin our return journey with a stop at the Buenos Aires community, where you may stretch your legs and optionally support the local community by purchasing handcrafted souvenirs.

Return to Nauta by River: Board the boat for the scenic return journey to the town of Nauta, enjoying final views of the Amazon rainforest.

Overland Transfer to Iquitos: Ground transportation from Nauta back to Iquitos. The tour concludes at our office, or, if preferred, transfer to your hotel or directly to Iquitos Airport.
